2021 End of Season Review

end of season 2021 top banner

We made it, the 2020/21 season is complete!  There were times when we honestly thought we might not make it, however, with teamwork and dedication from our players we finished the season and what a season it has been 😊

Please join us in thanking the Wilts FA, NWYFL & WCW&GL leagues for their hard work and regular updates during the various lockdowns / suspension of football. Their determination to get all our players back out playing the sport they love really shows that we are part of some of the best leagues in our region.

We would also like to thank our coaching staff and volunteers, without them, we really could not have completed this season.  For keeping our players safe, social distance training, zoom training, Teams quizzes, cleaning regimes, lateral flows testing – the list really does go on! They have battled through with smiles on their faces and giving their all to the players.

A huge thank you to, you, our parents, for bearing with us through these unprecedented times and your understanding of the last-minute changes we’ve had to implement.

Presentations

We are sad to announce that we are unable to hold a whole club presentation afternoon, we have over 400 players registered, and the current restrictions have restricted us from booking a venue indoors or outdoors to hold a whole club presentation. All trophies have been given to team Managers / Coaches and if possible, will hold individual team presentations.

Whatever you decide to do, we look forward to seeing pictures of you all with your trophies.

Coach of the Year Award

This year also sees a first for FC Abbey Meads. The committee have agreed to present one of our coaches with a very special award, “Coach of the Year”. More news to come on this exciting announcement soon.

Highlights

The 2020/21 season has been a huge success for all teams on the pitch. We really do love hearing all about the matches and individual achievements of our players, from their first kick of the ball, their first assist, their first goal, the first goal they saved. Every player has achieved their own personal goal this season and we are extremely proud of you all.

Our Mini Meads sessions have become so popular this year, we have formed 3 new U7 teams ready for next season. The coaches and teams are already preparing for their 1st season together.

We have seen a record number of girls and young ladies wanting to join FC Abbey Meads, we increased the number of girl’s team from 2 to 7 this season and we will add more next season! We are also delighted that more ladies want to join our coaching team, the growth in the girl’s game is something we are proud of and we love being a club that encourages equal opportunities in football.

What an amazing achievement from our U16 Vipers, doing the double with the league and then a impressive win in the cup final! Well done girls we are massively proud of your achievements and you are an inspiration to all our young ladies, who are just starting their footballing journey.

Congratulations to the U14 Greys for being crowned Division 1 winners and the U14 Purples for being runners up in Division 4. Well done to both the teams and we wish you further success for next season.

Some Goodbyes

We do, sadly, have a couple of goodbyes!

David Butkus and Charlie Williams from our U8 Blue team have both been accepted into Forest Green Academy.

Millie Hodges moves on from our U13 Purple team to Reading FC Academy – a huge achievement and something she should be very proud of!

We are sad to see them leave FC Abbey Meads, however, we wish them the best of luck on their exciting new adventure and look forward to seeing them in the future.

And Finally

We are looking forward to the new season and we are already starting to put some exciting new plans in place, which we will share with all as soon as we can. New registration forms will be sent out shortly and preparations for the new season are in full swing. We also hope to announce the timetable for developments for Moredon and our new 3G pitch.

Enjoy the summer, hopefully the sun will continue to shine on us all and we will see you all back on the pitch very soon.
